BEELDEND KUNSTENAAR

In november 2022 heb ik een maand lang als artist-in-residence gewerkt in PE5, het centrum voor kunst en architectuur aan de Erasmuslaan 5 in Utrecht en gevestigd in een door architect Gerrit Rietveld in 1931 ontworpen woonblok, dat tegenover het Rietveld Schröderhuis ligt. Gedurende deze periode heb ik mij gericht op een zo sober mogelijke beeldtaal door met een beperkt aantal kleuren geometrisch abstracte vormen te gebruiken en die asymmetrisch en haaks op elkaar te plaatsen.

 

Dit om recht te doen aan de door architect en meubelmaker, maar vooral ‘ruimtekunstenaar’ Gerrit Rietveld gehanteerde principes van licht, ruimte en soberheid. De artist-in-residence heeft gezorgd voor een ruimtelijke dimensie in mijn beeldend werk en het heeft letterlijk ‘ruimte gemaakt’ voor nieuwe ideeën.

In november 2022 I worked for a month as an artist-in-residence at PE5, the center for art and architecture at Erasmuslaan 5 in Utrecht, The Netherlands, housed in a by architect Gerrit Rietveld in 1931 designed residential block, in front of the Rietveld Schröderhuis. During this working period I focused on a minimal visual language using a limited number of colours and geometric abstract shapes placing them asymmetrically and perpendicular to each other.

 

This to do justice to the principles used by architect and furniture designer, but above all ‘spatial artist’ Gerrit Rietveld: light, space and sobriety. The artist-in-residence has provided a spatial dimension in my visual work and it has literally 'made space' for new ideas.
